Learn to Play Guitar Songs

How do you learn to play guitar songs?

In order to learn to play guitar songs, the first thing you will have to do is to learn some basic chords. There are thousands of songs that only use three different chords in the verse, and then two different chords for the chorus. You do not need to have years of experience to start playing songs on guitar pretty quick. If you are interested in playing the blues, a 12 bar blues progression only uses three different chords and just keeps repeating.

The internet makes it really easy to find the chord progressions and lyrics to all your favorite songs. There are numerous guitar tab sites that have thousands of songs in their library. If you are not familiar with these sites, just google guitar tabs, and you can start checking them out. You can also search a particular song title and just type the word tab after it.
If you are a complete beginner and do not know how to play guitar chords yet, then I would suggest downloading an online guitar course. You can just try to teach yourself, but it will take a lot longer to learn, and you will most likely pick up some bad habits which will hamper your learning efforts. A good online course will only cost about the price of one or two private lessons. With a good guitar course there is no reason you would not be able to be strumming some of your favorite songs within a couple of weeks.  A lot of guitar players are able to learn to play guitar songs by ear. In order to be able to do this you do have to have some experience and know a little music theory. The first thing you have to do is figure out what key a song is being played in. Once you know what key a song is in you will easily be able to figure out what chords are being used because there are certain chords that are used in each key. As you can see, to be able to do this you will need to know a little music theory.

Learn to play guitar songs:

Most guitar tabs will have the lyrics to the song, and above the lyrics it will have the name of the chord to use. What guitar tab does not show is the timing of the song. So once you have the tab to a song, the best thing to do is try playing along with a recording of the song to get a feel for the rhythm. If you're not able to make the chord changes quickly and smoothly yet, do not worry. With practice it does come pretty fast.
